Sleysla Is All About Saudi Heritage & Women's Empowerment

Sleysla is a brand that specializes in handmade products, crafted with a commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable materials. Beyond being a mere brand, it represents one of the most notable cultural initiatives in Saudi Arabia, known as the Sleysla Center for Developing Saudi Heritage. This esteemed center was established in 2008 under the auspices of the Al-Faisalya Women Welfare Society, and its driving force is Princess Fahda bint Saud bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, who serves as the chairperson and president.

The core vision behind the creation of Sleysla was to empower and educate women from underprivileged families or those with special needs, equipping them with necessary tools to support themselves. Additionally, the center focuses on preserving and growing traditional handicrafts, particularly those made using materials like palm-tree fronds and wool-based Sadu patterns, both of which carry deep cultural significance and reflect Saudi heritage.

Reda Gazawy, a spokesperson for Sleysla and a member of the Craft Cooperative Society's board of directors, shared that Princess Fahda's aim was to offer products and handicrafts created by skilled Saudi craftswomen, inspired by their rich cultural heritage. These artisans use raw materials derived from different regions of the Kingdom, making each piece a true representation of Saudi culture.

Sleysla takes pride in its commitment to sustainability and recycling. By using locally sourced Saudi raw materials, they create a wide variety of both conventional and modern accessories. Among their renowned creations are bags made of palm-tree fronds, showcasing the seamless blend of tradition and innovation.

The brand has been dedicated to training numerous Saudi craftswomen, empowering them to create the products that embody Saudi heritage. With a constantly expanding workforce, Sleysla hopes to increase the size of its training facility in order to serve more women and make more Saudi-inspired products available throughout the Kingdom. Additionally, the brand aims to gain wider recognition internationally by participating in exhibitions worldwide.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture's Fashion Commission, Sleysla has been an active participant in various events, such as the 100 Saudi Brands exhibition in Riyadh. The brand has also showcased its products in esteemed international exhibitions in cities like New York and Milan, coinciding with Milan Fashion Week.

Sleysla's product range encompasses an array of items, ranging from handcrafted handbags and abayas to beautifully designed decor and clothing pieces. As the brand continues to thrive and expand its outreach, it stands as a symbol of preserving Saudi cultural heritage while making a bold fashion statement with its exquisite designs and vibrant colors.
