20 Show-Stopping Looks At The 2022 Grammy Awards

While music’s biggest stars were on their A-game at the 64th edition of the Grammys, some attendees brought extra heat or defied expectations.

The return of the Grammy Awards saw our favourite musical stars providing some jaw-dropping red carpet style as they descended on Las Vegas's MGM Grand Garden Arena on Sunday. Known to be an event where fashion rules go AWOL, there were some seriously risqué, unusual, wild, whimsical and tongue-in-cheek style statements. However, music’s biggest night, the very one that originally inspired Google image search, also gave us all the glitz that’s associated with Vegas, as well as glamour, with beautiful voluminous ballgowns and classic figure-hugging dresses.

Winner of Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album with Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga was one to opt for classic glamour in a sweeping black silk one-shoulder Giorgio Armani Privé gown with a column skirt featuring a white train. The multi-hyphenate, who also wore a standout Elie Saab Haute Couture dress while performing, styled it with some signature platform heels and Tiffany & Co. jewels. Olivia Rodrigo, who scooped three Grammys, including Best New Artist, wore a custom, corseted black satin Vivienne Westwood gown featuring hot pink crystals that created an hourglass silhouette. The 19-year-old pop star, who performed her winning “Drivers License” at the event, accessorised with a set of matching opera-length gloves and layered bejewelled choker necklaces.

Punchy and confident bursts of pink made waves on the red carpet, with Saweetie donning an original take on the hot pink trend. Nominated for two awards, and the only female rapper in the Best New Artist category, she turned up in a two-piece fluorescent pink look from Pierpaolo Piccioli’s “Valentino Pink PP” collection. She teamed the long skirt and bra top with the accessory du jour, long gloves, and stunning diamond jewellery.

Billy Porter also turned up in a standout hot pink look from the Italian label. The “Pose” star and presenter hit the red carpet wearing a monochromatic outfit with a flowing, ruffled collared shirt and matching trousers. He paired it with a silver clutch and heels. Like Carrie Underwood and others, Chrissy Tiegen was a belle in a princess-like voluminous dress. Attending with her family, the model made sure to command attention in a strapless taffeta bubblegum pink gown. The dress, a creation from Nicole + Felicia Couture’s autumn/winter 2022 collection, featured dramatic ruffles. There was a calmer take on the colour of the evening too. Winner of Best Alternative Music album St. Vincent channelled showgirl charm in a soft pink all-over sequin embroidered silk teardrop neckline gown from the Gucci “Love Parade” collection. With the hem and bell sleeves adorned with flamingo-pink ruffled tulle, the dress was one of the awards season’s dreamiest.

Versace had a big night as well, including Dua Lipa dominating the red carpet in a look that paid tribute to Donatella Versace. The Creative Director originally wore a leather bondage-inspired look, part of the iconic “Miss S&M" collection, in 1992. It features a see-through mesh bustier, strap fastenings with golden hardware and a long skirt. Three-time Grammy winner Lipa, who stunned in waist-length platinum blonde locks, recreated another iconic moment while presenting with Megan Thee Stallion. The duo’s twinning moment in Atelier Versace paid homage to the 1998 moment when Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston wore the same Vera Wang dress to present an award. Doja Cat, who won Best Pop Duo with SZA for “Kiss Me More,” served another stellar moment from Atelier Versace. Her custom cerulean one-shoulder dress featuring a satin corset with crystal-embellished boning was layered with sheer tulle with wet-effect crystal embroidery. While it took 300 hours to make, as well as an additional 175 hours of hand-embroidery, Snoh Aalegra’s custom silver metal mesh dress, also from Atelier Versace, took 800 hours to create.
