22 Best Looks From The 2022 Academy Awards

All our favourite gotta-see-'em gowns from the star-studded red carpet at the 94th Academy Awards.

Hollywood's biggest night of the year saw some of its biggest stars (and their ultra-talented stylists) come out to play in their glitziest and most glam gowns and ensembles. After two years of restrictions and then a delay due to the Super Bowl and Winter Olympics, it wasn’t a surprise to see the A-listers delivering a stream of jaw-dropping looks that instantly made it to our bookmark list while they hit the red carpet at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. Whether a presenter, winner, nominee or one of the three female co-hosts who made history at the prestigious affair, each best-dressed attendee brought the red carpet roaring back to life in their own special way.

As usual, many of the celebreties opted to turn up the glitz in sparkly creations. “The 355” action star and presenter Lupita Nyong’o was the night’s golden girl in a custom Prada dress that’s difficult to forget. The burnished yellow three-dimensional sequinned flared gown with a metallic fringing touch was enriched with amethyst and topaz crystals. Plus, Zendaya, sticking to her pledge to never disappoint, brought new life to the gleam theme while channelling Sharon Stone’s Oscars look from 1998. The “Dune” star and Valentino ambassador put on a dazzling display in a custom look by the maison that matched a cropped double silk satin shirt with a glittering silver flowing ball skirt featuring an impressive train. Others who won in the glitter stakes include Olivia Colman, spotted in a modest, pleated floor-length number, and Alana Haim in Louis Vuitton’s timeless ivory, beaded long-sleeved gown with shimmering scalloped pattern. Meanwhile, Jessica Chastain, who finally won her first Best Actress trophy for her titular role in “The Eyes Of Tammy Faye” was a striking sight in a rose gold and lavender ombré gown. The custom sleeveless tulle frock is embellished with sequins for a sparkling touch and has a pretty organza ruffle-trimmed hem.

In fact purples, pinks and blush tones dominated across the carpet, alongside a candy shop of other pastel hues. London-based “Pam and Tommy” actor Lily James gave major princess vibes in a pretty powder pink Atelier Versace dress. The elegant yet sexy lace gown from the autumn/winter 2021 couture collection comes with intricate floral embellishments, a daring thigh-high split and dramatic tulle train. Mila Kunis also reigned supreme in pink. The Ukrainian-born actor’s misty rose satin draped belted gown is from Zuhair Murad’s couture spring-summer 2022 collection and features a ruched bodice, asymmetrical neckline and attached overskirt. Additionally, Nicole Kidman stunned, just like we knew she would, in a structured custom dyed light blue silk faille strapless Giorgio Armani Privé bustier gown. Nominated for Best Actress for her role in “Being the Ricardos,” Kidman was a vision in the dress that features a bold peplum waist, deep V-neck and two-piece bedazzled train. Saniyya Sidney, Megan Thee Stallion, Demi Singleton, Nicky Hilton and Zoë Kravitz also nailed the gorgeous, colourful and feminine spring vibe trend.

Many of our favourite style stars opted for the power colour red too. Kirsten Dunst, a first-time nominee, who made it into the Best Supporting Actress category, looked like a vision in the bold hue. Dunst, who stars in the nominated “The Power of the Dog,” is a bona fide vintage lover so it wasn’t a surprise to see her in the Christian Lacroix gem. The strapless tiered and ruffled number is super romantic with its floral-inspired elements. Additionally, Best Supporting Actress winner Ariana DeBose turned up the heat in a custom brassier and trousers in red crêpe couture designed by Valentino Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccioli. The “West Side Story” star, who made history as the first openly queer woman of colour to win an award, paired them with a silk faille cape to elevate the drama. Others who made red the colour of the night include Tracee Ellis Ross, Jennifer Garner, Amy Forsyth and Marlee Matlin.
