Top 7 Power Blondes of Hollywood

Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde

Charlize Theron will be playing the star role of the spy thriller Atomic Blonde. It’s a fitting film title for such an actress that has become a big name with her leading roles in Mad Max: Fury Road and Fate of the Furious. But she’s not the only blonde actress in Hollywood that is taking on bigger roles. Here are a few other blonde actresses that are far more than just another pretty face in Hollywood.

1 of 7

Blake Lively
Lively is only 29, but has been acting since 10 when she starred in her father’s 1998 film Sandman. She then worked her way up, in such comedies as The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005) and Accepted (2006), and hasn’t stopped since. She eventually landed the star role on TV’s Gossip Girl for six seasons. Her more recent roles include starring in the Woody Allen comedy Cafe Society (2016) and the survival horror picture The Shallows (2016).

Scarlett Johansson
Not only is Johansson one of the hardest working blondes in Hollywood, but also one of the most profitable. She got her start in the picture North (1994), starring alongside a young Elijah Wood, and sprang into all sorts of films from the indie favorite Ghost World (2001) to the award-nominated romance Lost in Translation (2003) with Bill Murray. Her filmography has become rather crowded in recent years, but most audiences know her as Black Widow from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the recent Avengers footage released from San Diego Comic Con, it appears as though she’ll be bringing back her natural blonde hair for the role, shirking the familiar red hair she’s usually featured.

Naomi Watts
Watts is such an unstoppable and versatile actress that it’s hard to imagine a role she couldn’t play. She began with small roles in Matinee (1993) and Tank Girl (1995) before she exploded onto the scene with lead roles in the David Lynch drama Mulholland Dr. (2001) and The Ring (2002). Some of her best recent roles include playing the Russian hooker in St. Vincent (2014) and a mom-turning-assassin in The Book of Henry (2017). Her current work is that of playing the regular role of the frustrated wife Janey-E Jones in TV’s Twin Peaks.

Reese Witherspoon
Witherspoon struck big early when she auditioned for a bit part in The Man in the Moon (1990), but ended up playing a much bigger role. By the late 1990s, she became a more notable young actress for lead roles in Pleasantville (1998), Cruel Intentions (1999) and Election (1999). She hasn’t had the largest presence in recent years, but is still in the spotlight for her supporting roles in the buddy comedy Hot Pursuit (2015) and the animated musical Sing (2016). She will additionally play a supporting role in Disney’s upcoming fantasy A Wrinkle in Time (2018).

Michelle Pfeiffer
Pfeiffer’s career has had its hills and valleys, but she has stood out in a few memorable roles. She got her first big break starring in Grease 2 (1982) and would go on to play the blonde bombshell of Elvira in Scarface (1983). Her presence only grew with bigger roles as the lead of The Witches of Eastwick (1987), Dangerous Liaisons (1988) and Batman Returns (1992), all of which garnered her awards nominations. Her upcoming role will be that of Janet “The Wasp” Van Dyne in Marvel’s Ant-Man and The Wasp (2018).

Cate Blanchett
Blanchett started off with some supporting movie and stage roles, but would eventually become known as Galadriel from The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy. Outside of her notable genre performance, she’s been a relentless actress for pursuing a multitude of roles in such films as Blue Jasmine (2013), Cinderella (2015), and Carol (2015). Her latest role is that of the villain Hela in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Drew Barrymore
Drew, born into the already stellar acting Barrymore family, started off her career in a big way as the cute little sister of E.T. (1982) and the lead killer of Firestarter (1984). Her career fortunately did not pique there as she went on to be a big name in such films as Scream (1996), Ever After (1998) and Never Been Kissed (1999). She has had a consistent role in several romantic comedies over the years alongside the likes of Adam Sandler (50 First Dates, Blended), Hugh Grant (Music and Lyrics) and Jimmy Fallon (Fever Pitch).
