Hasan Minhaj: The Homecoming King

The spiciest comedian around is known for serving priceless knee-slappers on The Daily Show. Since becoming a correspondent on the popular talk show, Hasan Minhaj has done more than stun audiences across America.

The Searing Speech
The handsome 31-year-old American soaked up the spotlight this year when he chose to handle the job no one wanted to touch- speaking at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. “Who thought that with everything going on right now a Muslim would be standing on this stage,” he said, genuinely surprised.

Manhaj took the opportunity to defend the first amendment and the free press. The latter of his speech was dedicated to letting media outlets and publications know that they need to step up their game. “So that’s why you gotta be on your A game. You gotta be twice as good. You can’t make any mistakes. Because when one of you messes up, he (Donald Trump) blames your entire group. And now you know what it feels like to be a minority.”

Acting and Comedy
Before his current gig, Minhaj starred in a few movies and shows like Moving Takahashi, Failosophy, and Disaster date. On The Breakfast Club, Minhaj confessed that the MTV show Failosophy was “pretty bad”, but the experience he gained was invaluable. Using the knowledge gained from that, his creative talent was seen as something special in the eye of former Daily Show host, Jon Stewart.

In 2014, Minhaj joined the The Daily Show. He leaped from correspondent, to senior correspondent, to him being welcomed on air as senior political analyst. Jon Stewart’s decision to hire Minhaj as the last correspondent was a wise one for the team.

On Netflix, Minhaj landed his very own comedy special- Homecoming King. Here, the comedian steers us through true stories about love, equality, racism, family, and the American dream.

Up Close and Personal
More than just a guy who makes us laugh, Minaj wants to connect on a deeper level. When asked about what inspired him to create Homecoming King this is what he told The Frame: “Regardless of race, color, creed, or class or sexuality– we’ve all dealt with these doorstep moments where we’ve put ourselves on the line and we weren’t accepted because of something we can’t control. Now, for me, it was the color of my skin. But for other people it’s a myriad of other reasons.”

It’s beyond a stand-up comedy show, it’s a live memoir. Viewers agree that the show is the most innovative comedy special to hit Netflix, and an emotional roller-coaster too.

When the Homecoming King delivers, people do more than just ha-ha- they listen, experience, and feel. Fighting the good fight with a bag of bottomless jokes - that’s Hasan Minhaj!
