Saudi Arabia is a country where you can never get bored. Between its centuries-old sites and wide variety of entertainment venues is its truly breathtaking nature, comprising every kind of terrain, from stunning oasis and desert dunes, to lush green hills to magnificent mountains. The Cliffs Of Al Disah Valley

Up north, is Wadi Qirqir or Al Disah Valley, home to some of Saudi Arabia’s most interesting trails for climbing, cycling, and motorbiking. Surrounding this canyon-like valley are dramatic sandstone sedimentary formations that are sure to take your breath away. Exploring the area below will reveal freshwater streams, palm trees, and an oasis, and ascending its cliff faces will reveal caves, tombs, and centuries-old petroglyphic writing and artwork.

Jabal Tuwaiq

In the center of Saudi Arabia is Jabal Tuwaiq (Tuwaiq Mountain in English). It is a perfect place to not only climb but to hike and set up camp as well. Tuwaiq is not very far from the capital city of Riyadh and stretches into the Rub’ al Khali desert (the Empty Quarter). A popular destination in Saudi Arabia, this spot has become even more popular of late probably in part due to Crown Prince Mohammed Salman. In 2018, during an appearance in the Future Investment Initiative, the Crown Prince likened Saudi Arabians to the mountain, saying, “The Saudis’ strength is like that of the Tuwaiq mountain, unbreakable.”

Jabal Al Soudah

For a greener day out in nature, head south of the Kingdom to Abha region. There, standing at over 3,100 meters and perched on the side of Saudi Arabi’a highest mountain is the juniper-covered Al Soudah Mountain. It offers great hiking routes, cool mountain air, wild forests, and stunning valleys below. For those looking to ascend Al Souda the adventurous way, it is a good idea to get in touch with the Saudi Climbing and Hiking Federation.
