Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Welcome a Baby Boy

Congratulations to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on the birth of their baby boy.

The Duke and Duchess welcomed baby Sussex in the early hours of 6th May 2019. Following much speculation about the birth of the new royal, Kensington Palace announced the news, which was later confirmed via an Instagram post, with the caption, “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz. The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives.”

Details about the name of the new born and more are expected to be released over the course of the next few days.

Breaking away from royal traditions upheld by Prince William and Princess Kate for the birth of each of their 3 children, Meghan and Harry chose to keep the birth of their firstborn a private matter. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been known to pose for photos for the public and press, on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London after the arrival of their children – as did Princess Diana and Prince Charles on the arrival of Princes William and Harry.

Buckingham Palace announced last month, to the public, “Their Royal Highnesses have taken a personal decision to keep the plans around the arrival of their baby private. The Duke and Duchess look forward to sharing the exciting news with everyone once they have had an opportunity to celebrate privately as a new family.”

The new royal baby, will be Queen Elizabeth II’s eighth grandchild, and will be seventh in line to the throne after Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, and Prince Harry. It has also been speculated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s baby will not gain the title of a “Prince” – unless the Queen should grant it or in the case Prince Charles (the baby’s grandfather) becomes king. In 1917, King George V limited royal titles within the family.

The Duke and Duchess will start family life at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, close to where the couple were married last year.
