Women’s Day in Saudi Arabia Set To Be a Musical Affair

Saudi Arabia’s Women’s Day is set to be celebrated with a two-day musical operetta which will go by the name of, “Daughters of Salman”.

On 2nd – 3rd March, the operetta will see female Saudi musicians on stage at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Riyadh. Sponsored by Princess Nora bint Mohammed al- Saoud, the event will also include theatrical performances, poetry by well-known Saudi female poets, and the presentation of a documentary film that tells the history of Saudi women.

2018 hosts Saudi Women’s Day’s 2nd edition; last year’s honorary women’s event was celebrated with a huge operetta held over 3 days. Along with the musical performances, talks on photography, new media, culture, arts and folklore will also take place across the 2 day event.

Celebrating Saudi Women’s Day is also about the Saudi women who have made groundbreaking contributions to society, and professional fields including journalism, art, poetry, sports and education; a ceremony to honor these women for being trailblazers who are constantly fighting for independence and equality is also to take place.

Last year, the Kingdom lifted a long-standing ban on women driving and has in recent months made major reforms aimed at female empowerment, encouraging them to become active members of society, focused on building the future of Saudi.
