Modest Hemlines at London Fashion Week

Ports 1961

Modalisa’s Modest Fashion Week took place alongside London Fashion Week (LFW) and the second edition of the two-day event, held at Victoria House, Bloomsbury, saw over 40 international designers, including Shamilla Bashir and Elegance of Black, showcase scarves, hijabs and demure maxi dresses.

However, modest dressers will also rejoice in the fact the main event offered a plethora of coveted long hemlines for next season too. Just like New York, many skirts and dresses ended below the knee, which is good news for all us busy bees as well, as we won’t have to pen in so many leg maintenance appointments.

Christopher Kane

Long pencil skirts are so in next autumn, and at Christopher Kane they appeared with long rows of buttons. Rejina Pyo introduced a softer take of the trend, with some wrapped at the waist. Dressy corduroy was a thing at LFW as well, and Roland Mouret’s pink pencil skirt in the material was definitely noteworthy.

Preen by Thornton Bregazzi

Toga got really creative and reimagined silk scarves on longer skirts, letting them appear as parts of pleats or through cut out sections. Elsewhere, Margaret Howell presented vintage-style gowns flowing down to the knee, and at Jasper Conran and J.W. Anderson, we were treated to midi skirts, with the latter’s in a handkerchief style trimmed with rainbow stripes.

Roland Mouret

There were some beautiful evening looks too, including lots of swishing skirts. Ports 1961’s knitted skirt came with sparkly tinsel, while Erdem had a show-stopping one with sequins. The label also gave us a host of fancy floral dresses, as well as some with a gothic touch. Additionally, Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s silk dresses were simply to die for.
