This 17-Year-Old Takes Coffee Art To Another Dimension

Daphne Tan from Singapore has over 33,000 followers on Instagram (check out @Periperipeng), the majority of them garnered in just one year, and all this for her out-of-this-world coffee art that she makes by herself in her kitchen. She creates 3D latte art, each cup taking her just 10 to 20 minutes to make, depending on the complexity.

I was going for a scary wolf but I guess it didn’t turn out as planned hahaha

This is incredible. I reached 16k? I’d like to thank one of the first few brands who reached out to me (when I had exactly half the following I currently do) and had faith in my potential to grow - @BaristaEspresso (shoutout to Roy for contacting me!) It was a boost of confidence in my abilities and a fuel for my passion in creating art in cups. Thank you for supporting my work and giving me amazing products to work with! Here’s the long awaited video of the process of how I make my 3D latte art, using Barista Espresso products! This was a quick and simple one that took 4 minutes and 36 seconds in total but I sped it up so y’all didn’t get bored, do check out the full video on my Youtube Channel (link in my story, just swipe up!)

According to her website, Tan’s interest in making these deliciously crazy cups was sparked in a school program where she had the opportunity to attend a workshop on the appreciation of gourmet coffee.

For colors, Tan uses only natural food coloring, with a bit of carob powder and water to draw and color the foam. To make the foam itself, she uses a milk frother from Nespresso, and to shape it, she goes for simple tools found in any kitchen such as spoons and a bamboo skewer. And how does she make sure the coffee stays warm by the time she’s done? She uses a double walled mug when she can.
