Modest Fashion Week is an annual fashion platform founded by girl bosses, the owner of Alahijab.com (a social media platform dedicated to modest fashion), Franka Soeria and Turkish entrepreneur Ozlem Sahin; the pair met in Istanbul and tapped into a huge gap in the market by creating Istanbul Modest Fashion Week.
Having found tremendously triumphed in Istanbul in 2015, and London last year, the fashion extravaganza that is Modest Fashion Week will be taking place in Dubai for the very first time.
The not-to-be-missed event, held in collaboration with Emaar Properties, Red Connect and Think Fashion, will be taking place at Burj Park in the heart of Downtown on the 8th and 9th of December, and is set to showcase both regional and international modest fashion designers. There will be 30 runway shows, and 40 handpicked brands and modest wear RTW, abaya and couture designers, from nearly 20 different countries, presenting their latest styles.
The fashion extravaganza will feature modest influencers, including Habiba Da Silva, Vogue Arabia’s ‘Muses of Modesty, Saufya Goodson and Safiya Abdallah, as well as the new face of Nike Pro Hijab, Manal Rostom.
Also partaking in this year’s event will hijab-wearing supermodels, Halima Aden – signed to IMG and stormed the runway for Kanye West, and Mariah Idrissi who is the first veiled model to feature in H&M’s ad campaigns, who will both be walking for the latest modest wear designers on Dubai Modest Fashion Week’s catwalk.
Modest fashion isn’t just for ‘modistas’; you don’t necessarily have to be veiled or part of a particular religious background to enjoy the latest layers of modest styles and this will be most certainly be determined by brands including Japan’s leading modest fashion designer, Huw Roman, Indonesian labels, Fllumae, Sumayya & SSS, and German designer Meriem Lebdiri of Mizaan and not to mention India’s first abaya designer, Murcyleen Peerzada.
With so much global recognition of modest fashion, you won’t need to look much further for inspiration.
