Ways To Assist Victims Impacted By The Earthquake In Morocco

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck Morocco on Friday night, marking the strongest quake to affect the country in 120 years.

The epicenter was located in the mountainous region of the High Atlas, situated south of Marrakesh, and its effects were felt in coastal cities like Casablanca. Disturbing images and videos captured ancient structures collapsing into rubble, while terrified locals ran for their lives onto the streets. In response to this tragedy, King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan government have declared three days of national mourning.

In times of calamity, it is often the most disadvantaged and vulnerable individuals who bear the heaviest burden. These people risk getting caught in a downward spiral of suffering if they don't receive enough help, with children missing out on their education, workers losing their income, and access to healthcare becoming limited.

The disaster has claimed the lives of more than 2,000 people, and this toll is expected to rise as search and rescue teams encounter difficulties reaching remote areas, as reported by the Associated Press. Additionally, thousands more are in dire need of essentials such as food, shelter, and basic supplies.

Here are organizations you can contribute to in order to support the humanitarian efforts on the ground.

Moroccan Red Crescent Society (MRCS)
