Athr Gallery Offers A Free Summer Art Residency

ATHR Gallery is presenting a unique opportunity for artists seeking a conducive environment for their creative endeavors in Riyadh's Jax District. The gallery has announced that it will provide free accommodation during the summer for “art professionals currently or will be working on a creative project. Participants can be of any creative discipline (art, curation, music, architecture or other related professions) and can be in the research or production phase of their projects.”

The selected applicant will be granted a generously furnished two-bedroom apartment located in Diriyah, right across from the JAX district in Riyadh. Hasan Saud, ATHR's marketing and communications manager, expressed that the aim of this initiative is to eliminate any barriers to entry and foster the community. He emphasized that this program distinguishes itself from traditional residencies by allowing artists the freedom to pursue their artistic visions without being constrained by curatorial themes or predetermined objectives and criteria for their finished work.

Saud further explained that ATHR's mission is centered around nurturing and cultivating artists. This program's main objective is to make it easier for artists to discover new opportunities for creativity and surround themselves with like-minded people. In the application process, the gallery inquires about the project to assess its consistency with the local artistic community and to gain a better understanding of its validity. As part of the appraisal procedure, they seek an overall understanding of the applicant's current project.

The lodging is conveniently located in the famous Diriyah neighborhood, which is reachable by the major thoroughfare. It is surrounded by coffee houses and is a short distance from the vibrant heart of the capital city.

The application period will commence on June 25 and run until July 7. Interested artists will be required to submit an artist's statement, resume, portfolio, and respond to a few fundamental inquiries about their work. To be eligible, applicants must not already be based in Riyadh and must be over 18 years old. As this opportunity focuses on supporting one artist at a time, it is not suitable for families. The selected artist will be responsible for funding their own projects, as well as arranging their own meals, transportation, and supplies.

Saud clarified that the duration of the stay will be determined by the artist's project and their individual plans. However, artists who are not planning to visit during the summer may not be considered for this opportunity.
