Lacoste Releases A New Collection Inspired By Netflix

Lacoste, a French sportswear label owned by the MF Brands group (also the owner of Aigle, Gant, and The Kooples), has collaborated with streaming platform Netflix to release a capsule collection that embraces the rules of aesthetics of eight of the streaming giant's major series. The collection, which includes designs for both men and women, features Lacoste staples with a ‘play’ button next to the iconic crocodile logo.

Reinterpreting the rules of well-known Netflix series, the collection blurs the lines between fashion and fantasy, such as Stranger Things, Lupin, Sex Education, Shadow and Bone, Elite, Money Heist, The Witcher, and Bridgerton. The Lacoste crocodile is also redesigned to echo the looks of fictional characters from the series, such as Assane Diop from Lupin.

The collaboration was hinted at through email and on TikTok to Lacoste Club members before being made available worldwide on April 12 at Lacoste stores and on the label’s e-shop, as well as on the Netflix e-shop, offering items inspired by the most popular shows on the streaming service. Some of the apparel from the collection have an all-over printed pattern that resembles toile de Jouy, while other items have the crocodile logo modified to incorporate some of Netflix's signature symbols, such as the pool slides and bottle-green sneakers with white soles called "Slip-on Jump Server" and blue, white, and red socks with an embroidered "play" button.

Catherine Spindler, deputy managing director of Lacoste, expressed delight at the collaboration, claiming that it represented a rare union of the two worlds and a desire to bring people from various cultures together around a shared interest. Both Netflix and Lacoste's unique philosophies and areas of expertise are represented in the collection.

The collection was released after Lacoste had kicked off a year of celebrations for its 90th anniversary by presenting a revamped couture edition of a collectable polo to honour the Lacoste history.
