These Arab Couturiers Are Slaying Paris Couture Week

The Middle East is home to some of Paris Couture Week’s most famed designers. A hotbed of talent, the region has produced some of the fashion world’s most iconic names including the likes of Azzedine Alaia, Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad as well as emerging labels such as Monot and Benchellal – each of whom who have dressed the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Rita Ora and Taylor Swift just to name a few!

Arab couturiers have made waves internationally, and have had legendary moments in Hollywood – like in 2002 when Halle Berry became the first black woman to win an Oscar, and accepted her award in a dress still fawned over today, by Elie Saab. It was a shade of burgundy, with a sheer bodice delicately embroidered with flowers to protect her modesty. With Middle Eastern fashion talent making such waves, it comes as no surprise as they show their couture creations at the only and only Paris Couture Week. Georges Hobeika

Lebanese couturier, Georges Hobeika officially opened his atelier in Beirut, Lebanon in 1995, and has been presenting his collections in Paris, during the city’s official fashion weeks, for over a decade. Hobeika is officially recognized by the "Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture", as a guest member.

Ashi Studio

Beirut-based Saudi couturier Mohamed Ashi creates dramatic silhouettes featuring, voluminous sleeves, ruffles, and endless trains. Inspired by architecture and art, Ashi launched his label in 2007 and has since dressed some of our favorite celebrities including Beyonce. His work was made for Paris Haute Couture Week.

Zuhair Murad

Lebanese designer, Zuhair Murad made his first appearance on the catwalks of Rome with a collection that led to his participation in the Italian calendar in 1999. Since then, he has become synonymous with couture in the world of celebrity, dressing the likes of Jennifer Lopez. Utterly iconic, he is a fixture at Paris Haute Couture Week for his glamorous eye and ethereal designs.

Elie Saab

The ultimate couturier, bridal and ready to wear designer, Elie Saab is world famous for his glamorous creations. The Lebanese designer has ateliers in Milan and Paris and showcases his work each Paris Haute Couture week.

When he first started in the 1980s, he made his mark with bridal couture that was made using expensive fabrics, lace, gemstones, Swarovski crystals, pearls, and detailed embroidery. He has also dressed the likes of Kate Middleton, Beyonce, Halle Berry and many more…
