The beginning of this week saw the signing of the second phase of an agreement between the Saudi Human Rights Commission and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime to carry out initiatives to improve national capabilities in combating and punishing human trafficking.
According to Arab News, by implementing the goals of the National Action Plan of the Committee for Combating Trafficking in Persons, the agreement helps to have a lasting impact.
Human trafficking is one of the most horrific crimes that violates human rights and robs people of their freedom and dignity, according to HRC President Hala Al-Tuwaijri.

She emphasized that the Kingdom has endeavored to create a legal and institutional framework that ensures the protection of all people, without discrimination, against these crimes and aids the victims through the laws and international agreements it has enacted and ratified.
Al-Tuwaijri noted that the agreement's renewal is part of the Kingdom's ongoing efforts to monitor programs and activities pertaining to preventing and fighting these crimes as well as building domestic capacity to do so.
The UN Office of Drugs and Crime's regional representative, Judge Hatem Ali, welcomed the alliance and emphasized that it intends to strengthen current cooperation in preventing and combating these crimes on a national, regional, and international level.
