Masks Are Mandatory Once Again In The UAE

As the country has seen a surge in the number of new cases, UAE has taken the decision to reinforce and strengthen COVID-19 regulations. A statement from the spokesman for the National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA), Dr Taher Al Ameri, said that the UAE will be strictly enforcing the continual use of masks in all public indoor spaces. The validity of the Al Hosn Green Pass has also been limited to 14 days instead of 30 days.

This announcement follows an increase of COVID-19 cases across the country within the space of a week, with hospitalization rates also increasing rapidly. It has been speculated by authorities that people who have contracted COVID-19 are breaching the mandatory 10-day home isolation rule, which is a criminal offense and will be dealt with in a strict manner.

Masks must be worn in indoor public spaces, they are not mandatory in outdoor environments. There will be a 3000AED fine for those who are seen not wearing their masks within in enclosed public areas.

On the Al Hosn app, the validity of the Green Pass has been reduced to 14 days beginning Wednesday 15th June 2022 for the general public and from 20th June for schools. This change means that residents will have to be tested twice monthly as the Green Pass is mandatory for access to government buildings across the UAE and indoor spaces in Abu Dhabi.
