4 Arab NFT Artists to Keep Your Eye On

Non-Fungible Token (NFT) has become a buzz term familiar to both artists and collectors. In short, it is a blockchain technology serving as a platform for selling art to collectors online, but it has also become a new means for up-and-coming artists around the globe to reach out to a wider audience. This includes contemporary artists from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, who are leaving their mark in the art scene through their unique NFT creations. With the rising numbers of Arab artists out there taking over the digital realm, here are four female artists you’ll definitely want to check out.

Ahaad Al-Amoudi

Ahaad Al-Amoudi is a Saudi artist known for touching on historical representation of Saudi Arabia. Although having worked on traditional art, she has also delved into NFTs, which includes a 10-second video loop entitled "The Mirage." It became one of the most prominent exhibits at the Digital Art Forum, the first in Saudi Arabia to focus on NFTs. This is in addition to showcasing her arts at Bawa Art Gallery, Gulf-themed NFTs touching on speed and its relationship with progressive change.

Aya Tarek

In 2021, the Egyptian-based Aya Tarek made history by becoming the first in the country to launch an art collection as NFTs. Entitled "Token," her visual works consisted of both physical and digital elements, which were showcased at Kodak Passageway, in Cairo. Prior to the Arab Spring, she was known for her street art and graffiti before pivoting to digital art.

In fact, the desire to see less control over an artist's creation was what inspired her to launch her NFT collection.

Ruba Salameh

Ruba Salameh is a Palestinian mixed-media artist with works varying from traditional paintings, photography, videos, installations, and more. She is known for using her medium to question the notions of land, geographies, and displacement, with many of her works having been showcased in Haifa, Berlin, and Dubai. In 2022, her artworks "Ants Work" and "Stripcle B.R.O." were minted into NFTs, becoming some of the first to be featured at Sharjah's House of Wisdom, in the UAE.

Her Highness Princess Reem Bint Mohammed Al Faisal Al Saud is a Saudi photographer, gallery owner, and member of the ruling family.

Her works have been recognized the world over with her NFT collection, entitled "Mekkah and Madinah," being the first in the Kingdom to be featured on OpenSea. Her collection is well-known for focusing on the two holy sites and their devotees.
