More Women Are Benefiting from Saudi Arabia's Tamheer Program

The recent number released by the Human Resources Development Fund (Hadaf), over 61,000 Saudi Arabians, both men and women, have benefited from the Tamheer Program, which was established to aid people in acquiring skills for the labor market. Looking into it further, however, it was revealed that many more women than men have taken part in the program, with the numbers at 74 percent to 26 percent.

This comes as the Kingdom has recorded an increase in women in the workspace in recent years, with a recent figure putting women's participation in economic activities at 35.6 percent. Under the Kingdom's Vision 2030 program, both the private and public sectors are working to create equal opportunities for both male and female employees, with the educational sector providing much needed skills for the labor market.

Under the Tamheer Program, each graduate holding a degree will be given financial aid. This can be SAR2,000 (or $533) per month for graduates in technical, health, and administrative institutions, or SAR3,000 (or $800) for bachelor's degree holders or higher. This is in addition to covering insurance costs for interns in the workspace. The program can last from 3 - 6 months.

Hence, the program has played a crucial role in readying Saudi Arabians for employment, with Riyadh, Mecca, and the Eastern Province recording the largest numbers of students to have benefited from the program. Each student receives certification upon completion.

Furthermore, Hadaf has also renewed its invitation to establish training opportunities via Taqat (taqat.sa). The online portal gives employers the ability to post new job listings, while simultaneously allowing graduates to forward their applications to employers. Tamheer is one of several programs covered through Taqat.
