Sharjah Hosts Latest Zaha Hadid Architects Building Aiming at Net-zero Emissions

After much anticipation, the new headquarters belonging to the UAE-based BEEAH Group has opened its doors in Sharjah. With a modern design, the building was designed by the world-renowned Zaha Hadid Architects to be aligned with the company's goal of achieving net-zero emissions and sustainability.

Indeed, BEEAH Group is a company with regional operations driven by national, regional, and global sustainability agendas, and offering services catering to several fields including energy, recycling, transport, digital ventures, and more. With its new headquarters, the company aims to showcase a blueprint for future smart cities.

The headquarters takes up an area measuring 9,000 square meters. Its exterior design is reminiscent of the surrounding desert dunes, whereas the interior consists of modern and spacious work spaces. In addition, the smart building also implements green energy by using Tesla technology while, simultaneously, meeting LEED Platinum standards, hence earning the nickname "Office of the Future."

His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, took part in the opening ceremony, and was accompanied by His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salim Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, as well as the leadership of Sharjah government entities.

At a press conference, HE Salim Bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Board of Directors at BEEAH, stated that the company's headquarters now serves as a landmark to the future-forward vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, reaffirming the UAE as sustainability capital of the Middle East.

In fact, BEEAH 's architectural design was a vision by the late Zaha Hadid, founder of the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects. In 2013, she and her team came up with the design for an international competition while complementing the structure's desert landscape. BEEAH 's headquarters was commissioned around the sixth year after Hadid's passing.

With nearly forty years of experience, Hadid founded Zaha Hadid Architects in 1979 while holding several chairs and guest professorships at international universities. Ever since, her firm had gained recognition with the architect herself being named one of the "World's Most Powerful Women" by Forbes, and TIME Magazine including her as one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World."
