A Look at Sheikha Hind Bint Majid Al Qassimi, Chairperson of SBWC

A successful entrepreneur and renowned figure in the region’s arts and crafts sector, Sheikha Hind Bint Majid Al Qassimi is also known as the chairperson of the Sharjah Business Women Council (SBWC), which was established to empower all women to use their skills and capabilities to build effective partnerships in economic, social, scientific, and cultural sectors.

Under her leadership, the SBWC has focused its efforts on formulating strategies to empower business women across the UAE, and Sheikha Hind has over the years contributed to the council's programs, initiatives, and campaigns on national and global levels. These include the launch of "SBWC Talks" and "SBWC Tours" in 2019, programs designed to encourage discussions, introducing business women and entrepreneurs to crucial services by the council.

She is also known for creating collections that fuse traditional Emirati and contemporary designs, which were first presented through SBWC in 2011 at the "Made in Sharjah" exhibition, and fostering partnerships with fellow designers and labels from around the world.

Since the age of 13, Al Qassimi has had a passion for arts and crafts after gifting her mother a beautifully crafted cup and saucer set. This passion would drive her to pursue fine arts at Sharjah University. Surely, she always believed that, one day, she could turn her passion into a full-time career and, by 2011, she successfully launched her first "Tuminah" collection. Indeed, the reception was overwhelmingly positive that it led to the launch of "Designed by Hind."

The "Designed by Hind" is a luxury brand of dishes, utensils, and homeware that combine both traditional and contemporary designs. The brand has also collaborated with other designers and labels on some of its products. Speaking to Friday Magazine, Al Qassimi explained that she had learned through her career that one should not be afraid to try out new ideas and explore what they may lead to.
