“The Code”: Saudi Arabia's Podcast for Gamers

Do you love gaming, listening to podcasts, or maybe you enjoy following gaming news, personalities, and shows online? Then look no further. "The Code" is one podcast that you should definitely add to your playlist. There are a handful of podcasts that touch on gaming worldwide, but what makes "The Code" different is that it caters to the Saudi gamers, is locally relevant and insightful, throws in a little bit of sci-fi, and the episodes are in Arabic.

The podcast follows four university friends going on an adventure in a mass multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) called "Harb Al Lahab" (The Flame War). In this parallel world, they fight demons by teaming up with a clan of jinns against the enemies, and restoring order to the world.

"The Code" is currently one of several podcasts run by the region's Finyal Media. You can search for it as a standalone podcast, or under Finyal+, on select streaming apps such as Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and others.

Commenting on how "The Code" became what it is, Mshari Alonaizy, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer of Finyal Media, was quoted by Campaign Middle East as saying, "We decided to go into this genre as we have seen how popular it is in other forms of media, such as TV and film, so we wanted to bring this experience to the audio world for podcast listeners. We also wanted to base the series on a video game as the gaming industry is on the rise in MENA right now, particularly in Saudi Arabia, and the theme has so much appeal and relevance to young Arabs in the region."

Currently, Saudi Arabia has been witnessing a rise in gaming and eSports, becoming the 19th largest gaming market in the world with over 20 million gamers by the first quarter of 2021.
