Why Is Dubai Is The World’s Most Resilient City?

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction just declared Dubai as a role model for being a sustainable, smart and resilient city. In order to claim this title, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of The Executive Council, met with heads of government departments that have aided the city in delivering goals, and subsequently competed against 4000 cities – to come out on top.

One of many accolades, this specific one, notes Dubai’s use of innovative approaches and best practices in disaster risk reduction, coming in at number 1 globally in the category of resilience amongst 56 shortlisted cities from the 4000 in competition. The assessment criteria comprised 10 essentials for “Making Cities Resilient,” among other requirements and conditions.

In a meeting held at World Trade Center, Sheikh Hamdan shared the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, that is focused on transforming Dubai into a model for future cities. This goal has driven Dubai to become a trailblazer in sustainable development. In his speech, Sheikh Hamdan also congratulated and thanked the various government bodies for their efforts towards this landmark achievement and encouraged them to continue to increase Dubai’s standing in global sustainability rankings. He also expressed that Dubai has implemented world-class projects and deployed futuristic solutions that make it the best place to work and live.
