Saudi Arabia Promote Healthy Food For Children

In an effort to promote healthy lifestyles for all ages, Saudi government agencies launched an initiative with companies to promote the marketing of healthy food products among children.

According to Saudi Gazette, the campaign aims to discourage the sale of products with high amounts of sugar, salt and fat to children.

Private food companies will instead concentrate on distributing healthy foodstuffs that contribute to promoting public health.

And overall, the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) invited food companies to solely improve the nutritional quality of food products.

Saudi Gazette also reported that since 2017, Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority imposed taxes amounting to 50 percent on soft drinks, and 100 percent on energy drinks and tobacco products to recede their consumption. As of December 2019, there was also a 50 percent tax on sweetened beverages and 100 percent tax on smoking devices and liquids.
