Rihanna Expands Beauty Empire With First Fenty Fragrance

The songstress and beauty whizz worked with LVMH’s nose Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, who claimed to “put Rihanna in the bottle.”

Rihanna is dazzling fans once again, however this is another new venture that doesn’t have anything to do with music. The hitmaker and entrepreneur is introducing a fragrance, the first ever from her coveted Fenty Beauty brand, instead. The latest launch from the label that has become a favourite for beauty enthusiasts looking for inclusive and innovative skincare, make-up and body care products drops on August 10 exclusively on Fenty Beauty. And just like Rihanna herself, the $120 gender-neutral "Fenty Parfum" is unique as she claims it doesn't have a place in any of the typical fragrance families. Undoubtedly, the scent that is set to turn the world of high-end perfumery on its head and allow her fans to smell like her daily will be a massive hit.

The 33-year-old megastar turned to French nose Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud to help her create the hard-to-pin down elevated and luxurious perfume that mixes spice, fruit and sweetness. A true perfectionist, Rihanna, one of a few black perfumers, visited Grasse in the South of France with LVMH’s master perfumer to hand-select the notes. The result is a heady, sweet yet sensual blend of geranium, magnolia, Bulgarian rose absolute, blueberry, musk, tangerine, blueberry and patchouli.

The instantly noticeable scent is inspired by some of the smells found in the cities associated with RiRi, like Bridgetown, Paris, New York and LA.

“That’s the thing I love the most,” she shared in a statement. “It’s an experience, it’s a memory, encapsulated into a fragrance. One smell, you’ll never forget it.”

The antique-like amber-hued glass bottle, designed to fit into Rihanna’s own hand, is a beautiful addition to any vanity table. Its size is also handy for those always on-the-go as it easily fits into a bag. The songstress chose the rich colour as she wanted something that represents everyone, wherever they’re from.

“Brown is my favorite colour. Brown is who I am. Brown is what I come from. If I’m going to make a fragrance that represents me, even the body language of the bottle needs to marry that,” Rihanna, who previously created a collection of 11 perfumes with fragrance house Parlux, explained. “So, I wanted something brown, but also transparent — so you could see the liquid and the fragrance you’re about to experience.”

Rihanna was introduced to the world of scents through her mother, who worked in the beauty and fragrance industry in Barbados and would offer her samples. Another reason a foray into fragrance doesn’t come as a surprise is the mega successful entrepreneur has been known for her intoxicating choice of perfume for years amongst other A-listers. A Twitter thread in 2019 highlighted all the times celebrities, including Jennifer Lawrence, raved about how heavenly Rihanna smells. As well as her secret/not so secret love of Killian’s “Love, Don’t Be Shy,” the songbird has a long-standing signature move of layering several scents to create a customised blend.
