Saudi Arabia Sees An Increase in Academic Publications

We're talking a 120% jump in published journals!

In the last year, the number of scientific research publications and innovations produced by Saudi Arabia's government universities has risen considerably, according to Arab News.

In 2020, the number of Saudi university scientific publications published in international refereed periodicals and journals increased by 120 percent. The number of scientific papers published increased to 33,588, nearly double the goal of 18,000 established last year.

According to the Nature Index 2020, one of the world's most important international indexes for institutional research performance, evaluating and comparing international academic institutions, the Kingdom ranked first in the Arab world and second in the Middle East and North African region for the third year in a row for the quality of published research papers.

Saudi Arabia was also placed 14th in the world for the publication of prestigious scientific articles and the provision of coronavirus pandemic solutions. Saudi Arabia's Education Ministry has backed scientific research and development at all of the country's universities. Arab News also reported thath the ministry has developed a strategy for scientific research, including a special research identity for each university, to improve the rate of publishing and optimize its impact in line with national needs and Vision 2030’s goals.

Several programs, such as the institutional funding effort to encourage scientific research that serves national priorities and demands of the industrial sector, have also been developed to assist research and innovation across universities.
