Saudi Arabia's Royal Institute of Traditional Art Appoints New Director General

Meet Dr. Suzan Mohammed Al Yahya!

Dr. Suzan Mohammed Al-Yahya has been appointed director general of Saudi Arabia’s Royal Institute of Traditional Arts. Saudi Press Agency reported that Prince Badr bin Abdullah bin Farhan, minister of culture and chairman of the institute’s board of trustees, made the announcement on her landmark appointment.

Her responsibilities include Al-Yahya managing its strategic directions and delving into traditional arts according to the institute’s vision.

Al Yahya worked as a faculty member at Princess Nourah Bint Abdul Rahman University where she took over administrative and advisory positions there. The art and design expert was also a member of advisory committees inside and outside the university.

Her stellar education includes a master’s degree in art education, a PhD in educational technology, and a PhD in educational policies and leadership from the University of Northern Colorado, USA.

According to Arab News, Saudi Arabia’s Royal Institute of Traditional Arts plans to launch its first training courses in September aimed to boost the field on the national sphere, raise awareness around the arts, and preserve the assets of the tangible and intangible cultural heritage in the traditional arts field.

Under the Quality of Life Program part of the Vision 2030 reform plan, the Ministry of Culture wants to bolster the local cultural sector and provide educational programs to upskill national youth.
