Dima Rashid, a Designer Making a Name for Herself in the Egyptian Jewelry Scene

Ask clients of Dima Jewelry what they think of the different collections and you may probably hear a lot of praises, and rightfully so. Featuring 18-karat gold, stunning stones, and diamonds, each piece of jewelry is carefully crafted with materials sourced from Iran and India, blending the past with the present, tradition with innovation, and rigor with experimentation.

Dima Jewelry is the brainchild of Dima Rashid, a Palestinian expat making a name for herself in the Egyptian jewelry scene. Born in Kuwait and raised in Canada, she resided in Gaza before having to move with her husband and children to Egypt in 2000. Looking back to when her father used to collect precious gems and when she crafted a gift for her pregnant friend at the time, Rashid began teaching herself how to craft jewelry as gifts for family members and friends. Eventually, this would inspire her to launch her very own jewelry business in 2003.

When Rashid started out, she had a slow start in giving her brand exposure, but she would soon get the much-needed attention through a fateful encounter in Paris with Natasha Fraiser, editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar and Marie Claire Europe. And, as they say, the rest is well-crafted history.

Today, Rashid takes pride in the craftsmanship applied to her line of jewelry, blending different sources of inspiration and approaches together. In fact, her designs often reflect her exposure to various localities since moving to Egypt, a rich experience that probably helps her jewelry stand out from the rest. In addition, about 60 percent of Rashid's stunning pieces are crafted in her showroom, while 40 percent rely on outsourcing, and this personal approach to the work she produces shines through every piece.

Currently, her jewelry collections are carried in major stores worldwide and have since become a brand of choice for A-list celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Victoria Beckham, and Jordan's Queen Rania Al Abdullah. To date, Rashid has crafted over 14,000 pieces and this queen of the Egyptian jewelry scene is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
