His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced a charitable campaign that could be the biggest of its kind in the entire region. Not to do anything by halves, and always striving for the best, Sheikh Mohammed announced a campaign on Sunday 11th April, entitled ‘100 Million Meals’ with a goal to provide over 100 million meals to disadvantaged individuals and families in 20 countries over the month of Ramadan.

The newly launched campaign’s website states that it “reflects the UAE’s humanitarian principles to aid the vulnerable across the world, regardless of race, religion or nationality, especially after the outbreak of Covid-19 exacerbated food insecurity, poverty and unemployment among underserved populations.”

The ‘100 Million Meals’ campaign will be a new goal and challenge for the UAE, as it follows last year’s campaign, ’10 Million Meals,” which looked to feed and support families and communities severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic that broke out in early 2020. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), will implement the initiative in partnership with establishments including, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment, the United Nations Food World Programme, Food Banking Regional Network, and Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department in Dubai.

HH Sheikh Mohammed also tweeted about ‘100 Million Meals’ stating, “Covid-19 has driven many populations into an economic despair. Four hours away from us are 52 million people battling hunger. We are launching the biggest food drive in the region to provide 100 million meals for underserved communities in 20 countries. Companies, business people & individuals inside and outside the UAE are invited to donate. We will work with the UN World Food Programme & food banking networks to deliver food parcels to disadvantaged communities during the holy month of Ramadan. Join us in our humanitarian mission.”

People from all over the world can make monetary donations to the new initiative that will provide food in countries such as Lebanon, Pakistan, Uganda, Egypt, Angola, Jordan and more.

Donating from outside the UAE couldn’t be easier as donations of as little as 1AED are being accepted to the cause via the campaign’s website or bank transfer via Dubai Islamic Bank account with IBAN no.:AE080240001520977815201. For donations within the UAE, SMS (Etisalat and Du) by texting ‘Meal’ to the numbers listed on the website.
