Riyadh Shines Bright Amidst Light Festival

We all need a bit of light in these uncertain times...

The capital of Saudi Arabia has bright plans – literally! Riyadh plans to light up in a spectacular display of over 30 light installations across the city for the 17 days long Light of Riyadh festival.
Featuring the work of over 20 Saudi and international artists, the festival works as a platform to highlight (no pun intended) Riyadh’s creativity through the stunning and detailed light installations.

Beginning on March 18th and running up until April 3rd in a number of locations across the capital, the festival merges contemporary and modern art whilst also allowing for interactive shows and experiences, outdoor sculptures, workshops, volunteering opportunities, cinematic shows, and educational talks.

Not just a visual delight, attendees will also have the sonic pleasure of enjoying a music show hosted by MDL Beast Freqways, which is a streaming platform, and will be able to tune into performances by Hats & Klaps, Kayan, and DesertF!sh.

This year’s edition of the event is entitled “Under The Sky,” and conveys a message of hope for an illuminated bright future as the world continues to fight through the COVID 19 pandemic.
The Light of Riyadh Festival is the first to be executed by the Riyadh Art Program which serves as part of Vision 2030’s plans to boost the kingdom’s culture and arts sector and will be showcasing installations that are sculptures that shed light on their surroundings.

Light of Riyadh will feature an installation entitled, “Light Upon Light” which presents art from the 1960s to today, and has been curated by Dr. Eiman Elgibreen, who is also curator of the Saudi National Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale, Pam Toonen, from Light Art Collection, and Vincenzo de Bellis, an international curatorial consultant.
