6 Best Beauty Looks From The 2021 Critics Choice Awards

The killer beauty moments came in spades and we'll be thinking about them for months to come.

With the double delight of seeing our favourite actors from TV shows and the big screen, the Critics Choice Awards is always something to look forward to. And while the 26th edition was a bit different this year due to the pandemic, celebrities looked as stunning and dazzling as ever. What's more, beauty enthusiasts got to feast their eyes on the wide array of hair and make-up statements dreamed up by the glam squads. Whether it was the A-listers joining in-person at California’s Barker Hangar or those being beamed in, the event that took place on Sunday, with Taye Diggs on hosting duties for the third time, offered a slew of inspiring beauty looks.

Here are six of our favourites:

1. Yara Shahidi

“Grown-ish” star Yara Shahidi’s stunning make-up was inspired by her Dior Haute Couture dress. Using the luxury French house’s products, make-up artist Emily Cheung opted for a variety of blue shades on the eyes, as well as slick eyeliner on the upper and lower eyelids for a gorgeous and intense pop of colour. The rest of the beauty look was light and fresh, including dewy skin and an orangey nude hued lippie. However, it was the 21-year-old presenter’s show-stopping hairstyle that really caught our attention. Hairstylist extraordinaire Nikki Nelms wove matching sky blue fabric through her towering knotted bun.

2. Amanda Seyfried

Make-up maven Genevieve Herr, who used Lancome products, was behind Amanda Seyfried’s gorgeous make-up. The "Mank" star, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, channelled old-school Hollywood, with the glam team inspired by the likes of Marlene Dietrich and Liza Minnelli. We loved the actor’s amazing slick of hot pink lipstick and the lashings of mascara. Dressed in a Charlie Chaplin tuxedo-like Miu Miu ensemble, she also stunned because of those 1920s Hollywood waves, created by FEKKAI Artistic Director Renato Campora. The modern take of the old Hollywood-style sleek up-do was perfection and even featured some dazzling jewellery.

3. Regina King

Uber gifted hair artist Larry Sims created the totally fabulous intricate long, low woven double ponytail for Regina King we are crushing on. King, who was nominated for Best Director for “One Night in Miami,” is one of the stars dominating award season. Dressed in a dark blue gown by Versace Atelier, she also rocked dramatic yet timeless make-up by Latrice Johnson to rev things up further. Her classic and glamorous smoky eye featured dreamy shades, including a golden glimmer, from a Pat McGrath Labs eyeshadow palette. A nude lip, mascara galore and liner helped complete the knockout look.

4. Anya Taylor-Joy

Like the queen she is, Anya Taylor-Joy took things into her own hands and did her own make-up for the event. “The Queen's Gambit” star had a step-by-step guide from make-up artist Georgie Eisdell over Zoom on how to use the beautiful Dior products for the structured look. While everything, from the clean skin with a matte finish to the neutral eyes featuring audacious, full lashes was textbook, it was undoubtedly her bold plum lip, which perfectly matched her whimsical Dior gown, that stole the show. Taylor-Joy, who landed the win for Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie, kept it simple when it came to her flowing locks. She appeared in a middle part with strands tucked behind her ears.

5. Dominique Fishback

We can’t get enough of Dominique Fishbacks’ gem-sprinkled hair. Monae Everett went all out by studding the “Judas and the Black Messiah” actor’s deep side-parted hair with an alluring scattering of rhinestones, which complemented her head-turning Reem Acra dress. For make-up, Fishback, who is also a playwright, turned to BillieGene, who nailed it with a flawless and precise classic cat-eye and glossy lips.

6. Gal Gadot

Gal Gadot’s jaw-dropping classic and simple beauty look has justifiably been one of the most talked about. Her make-up, the work of talented Mélanie Inglessis, included standout wild berry lips, super glowy skin and winged eyeliner. Additionally, the expectant Gadot, who was one of the evening’s presenters, rocked a sleek updo with a side-part. Her super cool hairstyle offset her white voluminous ruffled Prabal Gurung shirt.
