Meet The First Arab Female ‘Young Adviser’ At Chatham House

Saudi female scholar Dr. Ghadah Alharthi is also a lecturer at Central Saint Martins.

Dr. Ghadah W. Alharthi was selected to join the Panel of Young Advisers (PYA) at Chatham House. Launched in 2020, the panel is designed to give the next generation a greater say in the strategic direction of the institute and to help build a global network of young voices to participate in institute activities.

The PYA will play a crucial role in supporting the institute deliver on its second century ambition to reach, engage and inspire young people to change their world. It joins the Panel of Senior Advisers to provide Chatham House with a sounding board for the institution's policy conclusions.

Dr Alharthi, who is the first and the only female to join the PYA, celebrated her appointment and said:

“I look forward to playing a part in shaping Chatham House's engagement strategy and offering innovative approaches to connecting the next generation to the work and mission of the institute. I believe that there is an increasingly pressing need to involve youth on issues and matters of policy and governance. I’ve been a member of Chatham House for many years where I joined many thought provoking events. I will carry my experience of delivering projects and research to our discussions about the future of international affairs and the opportunities and challenges facing the next generation.”

Dr. Alharthi works as a Middle East specialist and cultural consultant delivering research and content development to consultancies in the UK with projects in MENA. She is also a senior lecturer at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, where she teaches on social networks, culture and social innovation.

Chatham House is also known as the Royal Institute of International Affairs, it is a London based think-tank that analyses and promotes the understanding of major international issues and current affairs. It provides authoritative commentary on world events and offers solutions to global challenges.

Chatham House regularly hosts world-renowned diplomats, policymakers and experts such as Princess Reema bint Bandar Al Saud the Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States in 2018 and Adel Al-Jubeir, Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 2019. Another prominent figure is Saudi businesswoman and philanthropist, Lubna Alolayan, who is a part of the Panel of Senior Advisers.
