Saudi Arabia’s Fashion Commission announced the launch of a five-day bootcamp that will run from the 28th of February till the 4th of March, aimed at supporting and developing entrepreneurship within the Kingdom’s fashion sector. The bootcamp will offer participants a series of virtual workshops, sessions, talks, and more featuring some of the best business icons, thought leaders, and global institutions in the fashion industry.

This five-day event is actually the third and fourth phases of a fashion hackathon that was announced in December 2020. It aims to bring together 150 participants – who will be chosen from over 1,000 applicants – to compete and showcase their skills. Contestants will be divided into 33 teams, each battling it out for the ultimate prize: a five-day trip to Milan Fashion Week in Italy. This stage of the hackathon closely follows the first two phases of the Fashion Incubation Program by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture, which was conceptualized to provide talents in the fashion sphere with a platform to build their brands, gain exposure, and network.

One of 11 commissions established by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Culture, the Fashion Commission was set up in November 2019. At the time, Saudi Arabia announced the formation of a new council during the launch of its first major fashion event called Fashion Futures, held in Riyadh. Conceptualized to act as a springboard for Saudi creatives, designers, and entrepreneurs, the Fashion Commission has been working to develop fashion education in the Kingdom as well as bring in investments for support and development of local and regional designers and manufacturers.
