Mona Althagafi: Serco Middle East’s First Female Country Director For Saudi Arabia

Saudi highflier Mona Althagafi has been selected as Serco Middle East’s new Country Director for the Kingdom. Althagafi is the first female to be appointed as the head of the international public service’s company Saudi division. The move is set to expedite and facilitate Serco’s growth in the Kingdom and around the region, helping to ensure world-class public services. 

As a crucial part of the executive management team, Althagafi will be in charge of the operational delivery of Serco’s core offering of data, asset and workforce management and help drive new business growth in 2021 for Serco Saudi Services and Serco Saudi Arabia. The go-getter, who will bring over 20 years of experience working in Saudi to the table, will also play an integral role in forming and boosting the Citizen Services business in the Kingdom. Additionally, Althagafi will be supporting Vision 2030 with a commitment to service excellence and customer experience, strengthened through the company’s ExperienceLab division. 

“In the Kingdom, Serco is committed to supporting Vision 2030 and is working in partnership with the government to realise its ambitions whilst maintaining its focus on nationalization,” the new Saudi-based leader of the company, which also has a strong focus on service design agency, said. “A big part of this includes working with key ministries to write policies, set agendas and advise on commercial models. I’m excited to contribute to this important work and lead some of the best local talent and teams in the region, to help shape the transformation of different sectors. I’m also looking forward to driving new business growth and supporting with the delivery of essential services in Saudi Arabia in 2021, which will make a positive difference to the region.”

Althagafi’s impressive CV includes working at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Riyadh, where she successfully led the planning of the Smart Government Strategy. The savvy businesswoman was also involved in the planning and execution of the e-government programme strategy in line with Vision 2030. While employed at the ministry, Althagafi was responsible for supervising high-level strategic initiatives to make sure they are in unison with Vision 2030 plans.

In her new role, Althagafi will report directly to Phil Malem, who shared the company’s delight at having her lead Saudi operations. “She has a wealth of local knowledge and experience supporting key businesses, ministries and governments, and combined with our international expertise, she will continue her excellent track record with Serco,” the Chief Executive Officer of the firm that caters to government and semi-government bodies, plus large private corporations said. “We look forward to welcoming Mona to the team and supporting her as she starts this new chapter in the Kingdom.”
