People's Choice Awards 2020: Trouser Looks We Love

The glam squads came up with some really chic and comfortable, yet totally powerful trouser ensembles...

The People's Choice Awards always gives us the opportunity to see our favourite stars, who have made a name for themselves in movies, TV and music, pulling out all the stops. And as they proved during the 2020 edition, which took place on Sunday at LA’s Barker Hangar, even a pandemic and audience-free ceremony won’t stop them from pulling through. Luckily, being one of the last award shows of the year, the stellar looks on the celebrities, whether style icons, fashion risk-takers or classic look lovers, came just in time to give us oodles of inspiration for the holiday season.
Trouser suit and outfit lovers rejoice, because they were all the rage at the event that offered some sorely missed glitz and glamour, along with sparkle and the colour red. See the fabulous ways some of the night’s major winners and Demi Lovato, who hosted the telecast, got on the attention-grabbing trouser trend.

Leslie Jones

“Supermarket Sweep” host Leslie Jones made a strong statement in her black Christian Siriano ensemble, which paid tribute to Breonna Taylor, George Floyd and other victims of police killings/brutality in the United States. The uber excited winner of the Comedy Act award looked amazing in the classic tailored two-piece with printed names, which she styled with a corset top underneath and matching pointed footwear.

Ellen Pompeo

Ellen Pompeo combined two of the night’s big trends with her bedazzling white, diaphanous shirt and trousers set, which she accessorised with matching ankle strap sandals. The incredible shimmering mesh and button up shirt with matching baggy pants fashion moment was thanks to the “Grey’s Anatomy” star winning the Female TV Star award.

Jameela Jamil

Actor and activist Jameela Jamil also chose bold tailoring to make heads turn. Her bright pink double-breasted power suit by Christopher John Rogers proved there’s nothing quite like a colourful and commanding look. Featuring hard to ignore shoulder pads and a huge matching corsage, the oversized blazer and trousers, which she rocked with metallic pumps, were a fashion slam dunk.

Demi Lovato

As well as slaying in various hairstyles, the evening’s host Demi Lovato donned not two but five different looks, and one of our favourites was a sequinned rust coloured co-ord set by Naeem Khan. The top for the disco-ready look featured a turtleneck, batwing sleeve and dramatic shoulder pads to add to the drama, while the matching flared trousers lent an elegant edge. The pop star also stepped out in bronzy coloured mirrored platform sandals by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Tracee Ellis Ross

It's safe to say there’s a reason why Tracee Ellis Ross bagged one of the Fashion Icon awards. The pressure was on as she attended the event to receive the gong, and she more than delivered with both of her looks. One was an effortlessly sophisticated brown Schiaparelli suit, which came with a double-breasted, golden buttoned jacket. Wearing nothing underneath, the “Black-ish” star teamed it with coordinating wide-legged trousers and pointed footwear.
