Karl Lagerfeld Pledges Commitment To Global Fashion Pact

The eponymous label is dedicated to sustainability in its strategy.

Sought after for its signature aesthetic - the combination of Parisian classics with a rock chic edge and pristine tailoring - the house of Karl Lagerfeld has just affirmed its continued commitment to the Fashion Pact and its sustainability endeavors, as announced on October 18th at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit.

The brand shares the iconic vision and design aesthetic of its founder the late Karl Lagerfeld, celebrates his colossal legacy, and breathes his passion, intuition and inexhaustible creativity into the core of its DNA.

The first public declaration from the Fashion Pact since its inception in August 2019 highlighted the tangible targets set for the future in three core areas: the ocean, climate and biodiversity.

Pier Paolo Righi, CEO of Karl Lagerfeld, said in a statement, “The entire fashion industry has a responsibility to reduce its impact on the planet, and we can only achieve this goal together.” He continued, “We are proud of Karl Lagerfeld’s involvement in the Fashion Pact—as one of the 32 original signee brands—and the collective steps we are taking with the other members. We continue to place sustainable measures and practices at the center of Karl Lagerfeld’s business strategy, and we look forward to announcing much more in the coming weeks.”

More on The Fashion Pact

The global sustainability initiative unites more than 60 leading companies from the fashion and textile industry, including luxury, lifestyle and sports brands, plus suppliers and retailers. Members have now identified seven strategic tangible targets with the support of some of the best technical experts, particularly in the whitespaces where collaborative action is needed to scale solutions to achieve critical impact on a global scale.

Covering the three areas, the Fashion Pact’s participants have committed towards the implementation of Science Based Targets (SBTs) for Climate to achieve net-zero carbon impact by 2050, eliminating problematic and unnecessary plastic in packaging, including polybags, hangers, consumer packaging, and retail bags and committing to the protection of key species as well as the protection and restoration of critical natural ecosystems.
