Saudi Female Launches First of Its Kind Arab-Chinese Media Agency

Saudi researcher and consultant in Chinese affairs Nesreen Qawas launched a first of its kind Arab-Chinese news agency titled OSAS. Her initiative received much appreciation from the Chinese government and she was honored by the Chinese consul general in Jeddah An Wa'er Habeeb Allah in the presence of Arab ambassadors and consulate dignitaries.

The idea behind OSAS came to Qawas after she witnessed a Chinese student take part in a cultural activity held in Beijing. He had mentioned disappointment in the misleading picture of Saudi Arabia given to the Chinese people by some media agencies and pointed out that Chinese people had no knowledge of the culture of the Saudis and their customs.
“This student made me want to communicate our culture and heritage, which is a big trust that we must not undermine because of its importance,” said Qawas. “So I decided to set up a media agency that will serve in visual, print and digital with its social media channels."

She added that OSAS will also provide university-based educational elements through the use of applications which will be done according to a work strategy based on translation, dubbing and writing through expert analysis. “These would be connected to all media programs and Chinese centers," she pointed out.

Qawas will also be working with Chinese writers and individuals from all fields and ages targeting media, cultural and educational exchange.
