This Female-Led Marvel Movie Is Just What We Need

To make the new Sony project even more exciting, Olivia Wilde is directing it…

While growing its Universe of Marvel Characters, Sony Pictures is making sure females take centre stage. After reports that director S.J. Clarkson was tapped to direct a female-centred "Madame Webb" movie, Olivia Wilde, now of the most sought-after female directors in Hollywood, will be spinning up a second female-led movie rumoured to be about Spider-Woman.

Wilde, known for her role in “House,” appeared to confirm her participation in the project by tweeting an article by “Deadline.” While posting the article featuring the news, the talented A-list actor-turned-filmmaker repped by CAA added a spider emoji.

Wilde, who is also set to direct psychological thriller  “Don't Worry Darling” for New Line, will be developing the untitled movie too, working alongside script writer Katie Silberman. She has worked as a writing partner with Silberman before  for “Booksmart,” the movie that saw her break out as a successful filmmaker and earned last year’s best reviews. Additionally, Amy Pascal will be producing and Rachel O'Connor executive producing. alWilde, Silberman and Pascal are already  working together on a Christmas buddy film at Universal.

More and more female filmmakers are getting a chance to work on big-budget comic book movies. In 2020 alone, four superhero/action movies with female directors at the helm are set to be released. And joining the filmmakers behind "Birds of Prey", "Mulan," "Black Widow, Wonder Woman 1984" and "Eternals," Nia DaCosta has secured the Captain Marvel 2" job at Marvel.
