Saudi Arabia Reports A 90% Covid-19 Recovery Rate

It can be said that Saudi Arabia’s response over the current pandemic has been thorough and multifaceted, involving the setup of testing and treatment centers, utilizing digital platforms, and involving research and testing of one vaccine in collaboration with an organization in China. Today, its focus and hard work have paid off, as the Kingdom’s Ministry of Health announced this week that 90 percent of people diagnosed with COVID-19 over the past months had recovered.

According to various news reports, the capital city of Riyadh recorded the highest number of recoveries this week at 1,439, while Jeddah had 877 and Dammam 275 recoveries. In line with the country’s early detection efforts, over 60,700 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were carried out within a 24-hour period, bring the total number of checks in Saudi Arabia to 4,378,417. It is worth noting that the total number of infections in Saudi Arabia has surpassed the 300,000 mark.

Speaking to Al Arabiya, Saudi Arabia’s Health Minister, Dr. Tawfiq al-Rabiah, attributed the country’s high recovery numbers and low death rate to the Kingdom’s treatment protocols. He explained that these treatment protocols were “developed by Saudi experts” and “are continuously updated with any new global developments related to treatments and procedures.”

Over the past months, Saudi Arabia has been working ceaselessly on curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus through various preventive measures and safety initiatives, and its focus on utilizing technology and innovation to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic placed the country in third place globally, particularly for its launch of an app that uses Exposure Notification Systems to quickly notify people who may have been exposed to a person with COVID-19, including those the person might not know directly.

In addition, according to Arab News, the Kingdom “has been ranked 17th among the top 20 safest countries in the world during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a regional safety assessment analysis conducted by Hong Kong-based consortium, Deep Knowledge Group.”
