Nora Al Shaikh Joins Purificación García’s Community With Her Empowering Abaya Collaboration

The abaya collection by the Saudi designer is exclusively for the Middle East and is inspired by some of the brand’s iconic bags.

Nora Al Shaikh’s exquisite designs, which fuse Saudi heritage with a global perspective, are always garnering attention. Most recently, the Jeddah-based designer has won over the decision makers at Purificación García, who handpicked her to create a curated abaya collection. Al Shaikh’s exclusive regional collaboration, an extension of the Spanish fashion brands’ continued effort to support and nurture regional creative talents across various disciplines, is inspired by some of the Spanish fashion brand’s iconic bags. The “Mi Primera Cita,” “Homenaje Acolchado“ and the “360º” bags all motivated the creative force while designing the stunning selection of abayas. Made with gorgeous and free-flowing fabrics, the pieces come with minimal shapes, with some embellished with embroidery or sequins, offering easy-to-wear glamour.

The abaya inspired by the“360º”bag

While it is based on a classic shopping format, the new “360º” bag comes with an avant-garde twist. The geometric and organic piece displays minimalist purity while remaining innovative, versatile and playful. The pattern stands out due to the difficulty of joining three pieces that revolve around the bag and are entangled with each other. Since Al Shaikh focused on this, it played an important role while she created the matte satin abaya. She incorporated the technique onto the garment by adding two different colours, toffee and black, to the design.

The second bag the designer got inspired by is the black crystal-embellished “Homenaje Acolchado” clutch, which is made with Napa leather. With its elegance and sophistication in mind, Al Shaikh came up with a design that features masterfully embroidered black tulle detailing on the sleeves. Made from light and soft matte satin, the piece is perfect for any occasion.

Purificación García classic, the “Mi Primera Cita” bag has been updated and given a more structured design. Made in Quinoa leather, the bag features the iconic cube on the flap, as well as an adjustable chain and leather strap. The exterior design of the bag includes a herringbone pattern, which propelled Al Shaikh to conceive the abaya design. Similar lines, formed with sequins, can be spotted on one side of the abaya, starting from the shoulder and going down to below the waistline.

The entire collection will be available at Purificacion Garcia stores in KSA’s Mall of Arabia, Red Sea Mall, Al Nakheel Mall, Hamra Mall and Riyadh Park by end of July.
