Dina Amin: The CEO Of Visual Arts Commission In Saudi Arabia

This month has seen a series of key appointments made in Saudi Arabia, propelling Saudi women to leadership positions in various sectors, from Dr. Lilac Al Safadi who became the first woman to head a co-ed university in the Kingdom, to Dr. Jihan Al Omran who was appointed the first woman to be Director of Supply and Logistics in Prince Sultan Military Medical City. This week, another Saudi woman has joined the ranks of inspiring female leaders: Dina Amin, the newly appointed CEO of Saudi Arabia’s Visual Arts Commission. 

The Saudi Minister of Culture Prince Badr Bin Abdullah Bin Farhan Al Saud announced her appointment. Amin’s new role will see her working on implementing the Ministry’s vision and on the development of the Kingdom’s visual arts sector. According to a tweet posted by the Ministry of Culture, her main roles and responsibilities will include: implementing a strategic plan for developing the visual arts sector; empowering sector professionals and talents; developing educational and professional programs; licensing sector activities; encouraging investment; cooperating with both regional and international cultural organizations; and more.

Set up in February of this year, the Visual Arts Commission is one of 11 new cultural commissions launched by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture, in line with key objectives laid out in the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 that aim to support and grow the nation’s arts and cultural fields. 

According to SPA, Dina Amin is a leading Saudi specialist in visual arts and international contemporary art field, with a long and diverse career that spans over two decades “of senior positions in the field of contemporary art in prominent international arts companies.” Prior to this role, Amin was Senior International Director, 20th Century and Contemporary Art at global auction house Phillips (United Kingdom), and before that she was Senior Director, Post-War & Contemporary Art at Christie’s, working in New York, London, and Dubai.  

Amin graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, a private women's liberal arts college in Massachusetts, USA, in Art History and Architecture, and completed her degree through the collaborative program with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
