The Design Of Saudi Arabia's Uber Luxury Airport Is Unveiled

It's located in paradisiac Amaala!

In September 2018. Saudi Arabia announced plans to create an ultra-luxury destination called AMAALA along its northwestern coastline, described as “a wellspring of inspiration at the heart of the Red Sea Riviera” that offers “the most comprehensive eco-system of unique experiences.” It has been revealed that AMAALA will be getting its very own international airport, designed to cater to one million travelers each year.

Designs for AMAALA’s airport were shared along with the announcement, and it is clear to see that the mesmerizing facility is inspired by the dramatic desert environment in which it will be set. Described as mirage-inspired, the airport’s terminal and control tower were designed by Foster + Partners (United Kingdom), while Egis worked on the design and development of a greenfield airport. According to Egis website, on “approaching the airport, travellers will see stunning land art from the air. Entering the terminal, visitors will be greeted with a sleek mirrored edifice rising from the desert.”

Regarding the announcement of the new facility, CEO of AMAALA, Nicholas Naples, said, “A gateway to AMAALA, visitors will be greeted by personalised experiences from the moment they step off the plane. From design to personalisation, this will be no ordinary airport. Immersed in the spirit of AMAALA, the airport will create an environment that embodies the philosophy of the destination beyond. This will be a unique space that personifies luxury and marks the start of memorable experiences for the world’s most discerning guests.”

Indeed, with AMAALA, Saudi Arabia is aiming to create an all-new concept for ultra-luxury tourism focusing on wellness, healthy living, and meditation. The destination, which is set to be completed by 2023, has been designed to be a natural extension of the Mediterranean Sea and is located within the same area as Saudi Arabia’s smart, cross-border city NEOM, one of its most importance archaeological and heritage sites Al-Ula, and its ambitious Red Sea Project.
