Dr. Arwa Al Jalal: First Saudi Woman To Hold A Quasi-Judicial Position

The board of the General Authority for Competition just announced the appointment of Dr. Arwa Al Jalal as a new member of the committee to adjudje competition violations. This makes Dr. Al Jalal, the first Saudi woman to hold a quasi-judicial position in the Kingdom.

Aside from her incomparable flair for justice, the female trailblazer’s whole career led to this milestone. A brilliant teaching force, Dr. Al Jalal holds the position of Assistant Professor in the department of private law with a specialty commercial and insurance law.

What’s the General Authority for Competition?

The authority was approved by the Royal Decree no. (M/75) and entitled the Competition Council. The General Authority for Competition oversees the the competition system in the Kingdom and insures a fair competition to combat overriding monopolies, which may affect legitimate competition.

Dr Al Jalal prominent role would be to maintain these regulations and protect the values of transparency in the local business sector through the framework of justice. This allow consumers in Saudi Arabia to continue to receive the benefits of a fair competition in the market.
