Uber Eats Stopped Services in Saudi Arabia & Egypt, Here's Why

Uber Eats has decided to cease food delivery services in Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The announcement added that in the UAE, Uber Eats will join Careem’s food delivery operations.

“We have made the decision to discontinue Uber Eats in Saudi Arabia. This will also allow us to commit further energy and resources on our top Eats markets around the world. Looking ahead, we remain committed to growing and investing in Uber’s mobility platform in the Middle East,” an Uber Eats’ spokesperson told Arab News.

In a landscape like KSA boasting a competitive market for food delivery, the app first launched in 2017 and took the decision to stop its services based on a "hard look at the business metrics"

Last year, Uber acquired Careem, a partnership that promises better and catered services in the region. Food delivery has never been more in demand right now; “the market is complex, dynamic and highly competitive," added the statement.

Uber Eats merging its food delivery services to Careem means that it would accelerate the app's plans to offer an all-in-one plaftorm for both transportation and delivery.

“This move will also mean that resources can be redeployed and invested into markets where we see more growth, as EMEA continues to be a major source of growth and opportunity for Uber Eats globally," it concluded.
