Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, LVMH has proven to be one of the most proactive fashion giants as it continues to switch its production operations to assist healthcare workers. Luxury fashion maison, Louis Vuitton just kicked off the production of hospital gowns and protective gear from the heart of the brand’s ready to wear atelier in Paris.
Once made, the gowns will be given to those on the frontline across six hospitals of the Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris (AP-HP).
There are currently 20 workers working around the clock in the atelier to make protective garments in fabrics and patterns complying to the standards of the AP-HP.
Michael Burke, Louis Vuitton Chairman and CEO, said in a statement, “We are proud to be able to help health care professionals at our level and put our know-how at the disposal of the Hôpitaux de Paris to create gowns for medical staff. I would like to thank the artisans of our atelier who voluntarily participate in this civic act and who have been bravely applying themselves since this morning to equip healthcare workers in hospitals who are in need of gowns.”

Some of the volunteers have moved their manufacturing to their home so they can safely work and abide to social distancing. The decision to produce hospital and medical garments comes a few days after the French fashion house announced that they would be producing non-surgical protective masks from their workshops in France.
