We Bid Farewell To The Modist, Our Favorite Modest Fashion Store

We’ll miss our homegrown modest wear shopping go-to…

Dubai-based luxury e-commerce platform, The Modist, anncounced last week on social media to announce that it will shut down its businesses permanently. This unfortunate news comes as a surprise, The Modist was unique revolutionary gateway to modest fashion in the Middle East.

Founded in 2017 by Ghizlan Guenez, The Modist quickly climbed up its way to the tops and the leader in the modest wear market stood as a competitor to other luxury sites including Net A Porter.

The site and app curated on trendy clothing, bags, shoes, and accessories from luxury brands that would appeal to those who looked to be stylish yet modest.

The Modist garnered much admiration internationally and was named “one of the most innovative companies in the Middle East” by Fast Company, a US publication, and won Ghizlan Guenez a spot on the Business of Fashion’s 500 list of the fashion industry’s “game changers.”

On their final farewell social media post, the company stated, “It is with a heavy heart we share with you that The Modist is permanently closing its virtual doors today. After three incredible years of creating a global business and platform that empowers women, celebrates their choices and breaks stereotypes, we regret to inform you that the global crisis that has hit the world has left our young business vulnerable with no option but to cease operating.”

With the coronavirus pandemic still rampant, fashion is one of the industries that’s hard hit the most, with designers postponing their collections, couture and menswear week in Paris also cancelled, and high street retailers canceling orders from their manufacturers, it seems we may see the end of many much-loved brands.
