Our Hearts Jet Off To This Piece Of Heaven In The Maldives

Some postcard escapism via this resort that has FOUR islands with long beaches…

One of the best ways to bring the world to you when it’s impossible to go to it is to start planning a trip. Eventually, the coronavirus crisis will be over, and we’ll be able to satisfy that wanderlust once again.

If the Maldives is at the top of your bucket list, Seaside Finolhu, located in the UNESCO-protected Baa Atoll, will be re-opening just in time to start thinking of booking somewhere. The dreamy luxury island resort, which recently earned its place as the first and only resort in the Maldives to be included in Design Hotels’ prestigious international portfolio, is undergoing a major upgrade and will be ready to welcome guests once again in July 2020.

Seaside Finolhu’s 125 stylish beach and overwater villas, four beachside restaurants, fully-equipped spa, wellness facilities, public areas and state-of-the-art indoor golf studio are all being  transformed. The modernised property and facilities will come with a distinctive barefoot chic atmosphere that combines Maldivian-inspired touches with ultra-luxury modernity.

With award-winning London-based design studio Muza Lab in charge of its redesign, the resort with the first Beach Bubble in the Maldives will embody a mesmerising mélange of colours, geometry and symmetrical patterns that complement its surrounding pristine natural beauty.

“Our new design direction focuses on the lens of the “Kaleidoscope”; the changing colours, patterns and textures representing moments of discovery, wonder and delight,” Muza Lab’s Co-Founder, Nathan Hutchins, said. Subsequently, as well as vibrant pops of colour, guests will find a unique colour spectrum in certain areas.

The design studio’s other Co-Founder, Inge Moore, said the resort will showcase unique works from artisans from all over the world. “Artistic tiles from Turkey, chandeliers and wickerwork from South Africa and wooden craftwork from Java transform the villas, bars and restaurants, the fitness room and, last but not least, the Oceaneers kids’ club into an exotic playground,” she said.

Finolhu, which means “sandbank” in Dhivehi, originally opened in 2006. While the extensive island playground owned and managed by Seaside Collection is popular with honeymooners, it is also very family-friendly and offers lots of activities and daily entertainment.
