Rare Beauty By Selena Gomez: Make-Up That's Made To Make You Feel Good

Launching in summer '20, the brand has a mission “to shape conversations around beauty, self-acceptance and mental health” and help people feel more connected and less lonely.

Selena Gomez announced last week that she is launching a beauty line called Rare Beauty. The 26-year-old singer and actress’s foray into the beauty world sees her following countless other celebrities like Lady Gaga, Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian and Rihanna. The line with a name that’s a nod to her album and title track, Rare, will be out in North America this summer and available exclusively in Sephora.

“Being rare is about being comfortable with yourself,” Gomez, who constantly preaches about embracing one’s individuality, explained in an Instagram video. “I’ve stopped trying to be perfect. I just want to be me.”

While doing an Instagram Live wearing some of the products, Gomez, who plans to get input from her fans as she wants Rare Beauty to “be real [with] real stories and real people,” touched on the pressure people may feel to look a certain way or use certain products, which can be isolating and unrealistic. She described the project she’s been working on for two years as a lifestyle rather than a brand.

With the brand garnering over 1 million Instagram followers in just over a day, it will definitely shake the beauty world. The hype started after leaks revealed Gomez had filed a trademark to create a line of beauty products last summer through her production company July Moon Productions. This included fragrances, cosmetics, skin-care preparations, hair-care preparations, soaps, moisturisers and essential oils.
