8 Artworks Addressing Climate Change From Jeddah's "I Love You, Urgently" Exhibit

Check out this transcendental exhibit running till the 18th of April...

A first of its kind in Saudi Arabia, 21,39 Jeddah Arts exhibit tackles climate change and sustainability on a global scale. In its 7th edition, the 3-month long modern festival holds a touching title addressed to our suffering planet, meet “I Love You, Urgently”. Joining the conversation are Saudi artists looking to highlight global environmental issues and invite more dialogue on sustainability, via the 21,39 Jeddah Arts.

Curated by Maya El Khalil from Athr gallery, organized by the Saudi Arts Council and supported by the Kingdom’s Ministry of Culture, 21,39 Jeddah Art not only raises awareness around environmental issues but also explores attainable solutions for a more responsible approach to life going forward. HRH Princess Jawaher bint Majed bin Abdulaziz, Chairwoman of the Saudi Art Council, said, “As a culturally rich melting pot, Jeddah is a place of exchange for new ideas, and we look forward to presenting a multifaceted program that we hope will be the springboard for dialogue between local and international artists and audiences, and which will give voice to young people through an extensive educational outreach program.”

Whether it’s Islamic painting techniques, calligraphic installations, ethically made clothing, digital print collages or other media, we’ve rounded up our favorite artwork from “I Love You, Urgently” from regional and international artists.

P.S: Wondering what 21,39 stands for? It’s a reference to the geographic coordinates of the coastal city in Saudi Arabia, and looks at encouraging and developing the ever-growing modern art scene in the Kingdom, whilst also promoting the country’s culture.
