Grammy Awards 2020: All the Best Looks on the Red Carpet

Naturally, the event that comes deep into the awards season served us some bold fashion.

While it was a teary-eyed event due to ex-Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant’s death on the same day, the recent 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, which took place at the Staples Center, the same arena where the basketball legend made a name for himself, still had a lot to offer. Wunderkind Billie Eilish had a record-breaking night as she became the first teenager to sweep the four major categories, record, album, song, and new artist, as well as one one other award. Other than trumping all competition and performing, the 18-year-old Bad Guy singer became the youngest solo Album of the year winner.

Other than impressive wins, there were quite a few memorable performances during music’s biggest night, including one from first-time Grammy winners the Jonas Brothers, who rocked the stage with a golden new performance.  Emcee Alicia Keys rose to the occasion while honouring Bryant with an impromptu acapella performance of It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday with Boyz II Men. Additionally, Demi Lovato brought down the house while belting out an emotional “Anyone.” The debut comes after the singer’s overdose in 2018.

Plus, of course, one of the biggest pleasure for viewers was taking in all the red carpet fashion highlights, starting with nominee Ariana Grande’s show-stopping ruffled Cinderella-like dress. The singer who also delivered a powerhouse performance with a mix of songs from her album Thank U, Next, opted for an oversized, romantic dove grey tulle Giambattista Valli ballgown, which she accessorised with matching opera-style gloves. While performer, jubilant first-time winner and one of the most nominated artists Lizzo reminded us of Britney Spears in an all-white look, she also channelled Diana Ross. The star, who nabbed Best Traditional R&B Performance for Jerome, paired her white strapless Atelier Versace gown, which came with diamante detail and split, with a long feather boa and a diamond necklace. Priyanka Chopra also looked phenomenal in an ivory sequin-encrusted silk crêpe cady kimono. The plunging Ralph & Russo couture creation was hand painted with peonies and embellished with opal stones, 3D organza petals and featured peach ombré fringed sleeves. Also wearing ivory was award presenter Dua Lipa, who looked gorgeous in her 90s-style slinky satin two-piece set.

The sparkly numbers from Alicia Keys, Grace Elizabeth, Pia Mia Perez and Lana Del Rey were some of the other style high points. The No One singer’s Atelier Versace asymmetric metal mesh gown with cinched waist and revealing slit featured light hand-draping along the sleeve and crystal embroidery. Meanwhile Elizabeth strutted the red carpet in a sexy silver Giuseppe di Morabito gown, which she teamed with heels from regional designer Amina Muaddi. Perez and Del Rey, who was nominated for two of the major categories at the ceremony and bought her dress at the mall, were simply shining bright in dazzling silver fringe dresses.
